Managing WordPress Website

Top Tips For Managing Your WordPress Website

June 13, 2019 Business Advice Starting Out

So you’ve got a decent WordPress website with an attractive website design and all the content you want. It looks and works great, so you’re done, right?

Wrong. Running a WordPress website requires a lot of ongoing maintenance.

Even if your site does work well, it’s a great idea to add new content and continue improving processes over time.

Doing this will help improve the user experience for your site’s visitors, help you improve your site’s performance, and help ensure continued growth and success going forward.

With this in mind, I’ve put together a short list of my top tips for managing a WordPress website. They include:

  1. Update your WordPress software

WordPress regularly releases new performance and software updates. If you want to get the most out of your website, it’s important to make sure that you regularly update your software.

Luckily, the WordPress dashboard will usually tell you if your current version is out of date, and it lets you update with the click of a button.

Keeping your site up to date like this will ensure that you benefit from all the latest WordPress features and functions, letting you stay ahead of your competition.

  1. Use a decent back-up plugin

There’s nothing worse than spending countless hours building a fresh web design, only to lose it all when your hosting provider’s servers crash. Luckily, there are ways to protect yourself against this.

Start by installing a decent back-up plugin. There are plenty to choose from, but try and find one with decent reviews that backs up your site’s content regularly.

  1. Choose a reliable hosting provider

There’s nothing worse than a hosting provider that has slow servers and doesn’t provide reliable service. For example, some of the lower-end hosting providers don’t guarantee that your servers will remain online all the time.

When your servers are offline, your website will be inaccessible. It’s therefore a good idea to try and find a provider who guarantees at least 99% uptime.

  1. Only use necessary plugins

A lot of WordPress users fall into the trap of using way too many plugins. Unfortunately, this won’t do anything except slow your website down and make things hard to manage.

Try and condense your plugins and use only the ones which are actually doing something for your store.

Don’t avoid using plugins that are useful, but make sure that they are actually useful and not just cluttering your dashboard.

5.Keep your security up to date!

It’s crucial to make sure that your WordPress security remains up-to-date at all times.

There are plenty of security apps and plugins that you can use, but it’s important to make sure that you choose one that’s both up to date and relatively new.

Hackers are refining their techniques all the time, and using old security programs will leave you open to attack.

Final Word:

Although it can be hard to manage a WordPress website, there are lots of things that you can do to streamline the process.

I’ve listed five of my top tips above, but it’s by no means an exhaustive list – do some research and come up with a list of actions that works for you!
